A founder's letter — why we're building this, and why now.
Three problems. One solution.
Information access is gated. Google decides what you find. OpenAI decides what you read. A handful of companies control the gateway to humanity's collective knowledge. When they change their terms, censor results, or shut down — you have no alternative. You accept it, because there is nothing else.
GPUs burn electricity for nothing. Millions of GPUs around the world sit idle 90% of the time. When they do run, they run proof-of-work hash puzzles — burning electricity to produce a number that secures a ledger and produces nothing else. The energy is spent. The output evaporates. Nothing permanent is created.
"Is AI safe?" has no answer. Closed AI models are black boxes. You don't know what they learned, what they store, who controls them, or what happens when their terms change. You trust a company logo. That is not safety — that is hope.
One network. Three answers.
A distributed knowledge index. Public corpora — Wikipedia, arXiv, Common Crawl, Gutenberg, legal records — are processed by volunteer computers into verified vector embeddings. These embeddings form a single, searchable intelligence index that lives across thousands of machines. No central server. No single point of failure. No gatekeeper.
Useful mining. The same GPU that would burn electricity on hash puzzles instead performs embedding work — converting public text into permanent, searchable mathematical form. The energy is spent. The output lasts forever. And it earns.
Open by design. The entire pipeline — parsing, embedding, quantization, indexing, verification — is inspectable code. Every corpus, every license, every data source is publicly listed. You can fork the brain. Build your own. Change the rules. That is the point.
NEMES-X is not a chatbot. It is not a language model. It is not a replacement for ChatGPT.
It is a search engine for human knowledge — built by the people, hosted by the people, owned by no one. When a language model is integrated (planned), NEMES-X provides the context. The LLM writes the answer. But the knowledge — the verified, searchable, permanent index — belongs to the network.
We will not pretend this is fully decentralized when it is not. The data layer is peer-to-peer. The governance layer is controlled by the founding authority — signed epochs, capped at 24 hours, with the power to pause or throttle the network.
This is not a bug. It is a design choice. Fully permissionless networks are open to spam, sybil attacks, and abuse. An anonymous but cryptographically signed authority provides discipline without identity. If the authority key disappears, the network halts by design — a dead god cannot silently rule.

This is not a whitepaper. This is not a promise. This is running code.
The core pipeline is live and running. The cc100-tr mega corpus (109.3M documents) is being embedded right now by 12 worker nodes. When it completes, the FAISS index layer will be finalized, and the unified search interface will go live.
Then: the miner client. One-click install. Your GPU joins the network. Your verified contributions earn shares. Weekly settlements in USDT. Premium hosted search for those who prefer not to run their own infrastructure.
Then: the sovereign ledger. Signed epoch chain. Anonymous authority. P2P gossip. The full decentralization stack.
Because the window is closing. AI companies are consolidating. Access is being gated. Prices are rising. Open alternatives are being squeezed out of the conversation.
If we don't build a distributed, transparent, censorship-resistant knowledge infrastructure now — we may not get another chance.
